Narthen

Narthen are Barry Coope and Lester Simpson (Coope Boyes and Simpson), Jo Freya (Blowzabella, Moirai) and Fi Fraser (PolkaWorks, The Old Fashioned). Previously renowned for their winter shows, the group decided that, like dogs, they weren’t just for Christmas, but wanted to be out and about throughout the year.

NOW the label on the tin (or CD cover) is a fantastic representation of the fact that in folk music anything goes. It's how you play it, express it and show case with integrity that matters. This CD weaves effortlessly from an opening driving instrumental that mixes an ancient tune with one newly composed, through to the classic No Masters commentary on modern times via songs such as the  poignant, 'The Estate' and out of nowhere, in fab harmony comes an XTC song that turns your head upside down and makes you think. From the trad and far beyond ...as has been said of them before "Expect the Unexpected"
